Because symptoms alone are often not enough to diagnose GERD, objective testing is often a good option. Bravo pH monitoring is the only capsule-based ambulatory pH test. By utilizing a small pH capsule that is temporarily attached to the wall of the esophagus, pH data is transmitted to a small recorder for a full 48 hours or longer. Ambulatory pH testing is considered the gold standard for pH measurement and monitoring of gastric reflux, helping clinicians diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Bravo pH monitoring has also been shown to be better tolerated and, therefore, preferred by patients over catheter-based pH tests.1
