Reflux Monitoring

Reflux Monitoring

While occasional heartburn may be normal, millions of people suffer from chronic esophageal reflux, which is characterized by symptoms including frequent heartburn, chest pain, indigestion, or bitter-tasting fluids in the throat or mouth more than twice a week.  These chronic symptoms can interfere with daily activities and may be associated with a more serious problem known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD can damage the esophagus and, if left untreated, GERD may lead to more serious medical problems.

Because GERD and other esophageal conditions can be hard to diagnose from symptoms alone, reflux monitoring may be a good way to evaluate these symptoms.  By identifying the frequency and duration of reflux, doctors can decide on a treatment option for a patient’s symptoms.

Capsule-based Bravo pH monitoring or catheter-based Digitrapper pH-Z monitoring can be used to collect data which can determine the frequency and duration of reflux.  Each device offers specific benefits for collecting valuable information for correlating symptoms to reflux.
