The Agile Patency System provides a simple and convenient means to verify functional patency of the GI tract in patients with known of suspected strictures prior to the administration of the PillCam SB or PillCam ESO video capsules.
The Agile patency capsule is a dissolvable capsule that approximates the size and shape of the PillCam SB and PillCam ESO video capsules.
Functional Patency
Functional patency is defined as the a differentiation between rigid fibrotic strictures and flexible strictures that an imaging capsule may safely pass. Radiology examinations do not make this distinction. This is an important finding since it may open a path to capsule endoscopy in about 60% of patients where video capsule investigation would otherwise be denied on the grounds of history or radiological findings.
